Emerging urban realities have made urban governance and management a daunting task. This makes it imperative for the officers to be equipped in handling urban issues effectively. Thus, LBSNAA, Mussoorie established “National Centre for Urban Management” under the aegis of Ministry of Urban Development, GoI to give impetus to urban training amongst the IAS officers.

A need for an urban centre was felt in the last couple of years which was finally accomplished under the leadership of Shri Rudra Gangadharam, then Director, LBSNAA, Shri Padamvir Singh, then Joint Director (now Director), LBSNAA and Joint Secretary, Urban Development, Shri Ajay Mehta. In a very short span, the centre has achieved its first milestone of creation of modules for Foundation Course, Phase I, District Training, Phase II, Phase III and Induction Courses through deliberations at National Consultations with people involved in urban management.
